ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Issa Brothers to open Leon Drive-thru Restaurants
Following the purchase of fast-food chain Leon, the billionaire Issa brothers are set to expand the brand by opening its first drive-thru restaurants.
Mohsin and Zuber Issa bought the healthy restaurant chain in a £100 million deal earlier in 2021 through their firm EG Group.
The brothers started off with a petrol station in Bury. EG Group now runs petrol station forecourts across the UK.
EG Group also operates more than 700 food outlets in the UK and Ireland, including branches and ‘drive-thrus’ for KFC, Starbucks and Greggs.
Leon has more than 70 UK restaurants and was purchased by the Issa brothers in April 2021.
Now, it has announced that it will launch its first drive-thru site in West Yorkshire in autumn. The move is set to create 30 jobs.
The company said the site will be the “first of many” drive-thru locations planned for 2021.
This comes as EG Group moves forward with its plans to expand the brand further across the UK.
The Issa brothers said the move would also be the first of “many new strategic openings” for Leon now it has secured EG’s financial backing.
Money will also be invested into the site’s “digital-first restaurant”, which will include kiosks for digital ordering and payments.
It has been reported that it will be the most sustainable Leon restaurant to date, with 100% of power sourced through renewable energy.
Nick Ayerst, managing director of the chain, called it a “significant milestone” for Leon.
He said: “We’ve been discussing the first Leon drive-thru with EG Group for five years now, and we’re excited to open in West Yorkshire later this year.
“We have three other Leons in the surrounding area and we’ve received such a warm welcome from locals, who tell us they love our naturally fast food.
“We receive lots of emails and tweets every week asking us to open even more restaurants in the north, and we hope this opening signifies that there are many more to come.”
In a joint statement, Mohsin and Zuber Issa said:
